Bringing a piece back
We strip and rebuild existing furniture — repairing frames and suspension where needed and recovering in your specified fabric. The aim is a piece that holds its shape and detail, finished by hand to a standard worth keeping.
We work from your materials and direction, with the work done in our workrooms, and arrange pickup and return delivery across San Francisco and the Bay Area.

How a San Francisco reupholstery project runs with us
Working to the trade, we start from the existing piece and your direction. We arrange pickup across the Bay Area — a single San Francisco chair or a Napa-house worth of seating — and assess the frame, suspension, and fills before any cover comes off.
Valley Studio does not have a San Francisco workroom: the piece is restored by hand in our New York and Van Nuys workrooms — stripped, frame and springing repaired, recovered in your specified C.O.M. (customer’s own material) — then returned and placed across San Francisco, Marin, the Peninsula, and Napa & Sonoma.

- Is it worth restoring an older Bay Area piece given the out-of-state workroom?
Often, yes — a well-made frame is usually worth restoring, and we assess it before quoting. For a San Francisco or Napa designer, the round trip to our New York or Van Nuys workroom is planned into the schedule so the decision is made on the merits of the piece.
- How does C.O.M. work for a Bay Area reupholstery order?
You specify and ship the replacement fabric or leather to the fabricating workroom against the order. We confirm yardage against the piece before stripping it, so a San Francisco project never stalls waiting on goods once the piece is in the shop.
