Custom Shades in San Francisco
Roman and specialty window shades, fabricated to the trade for San Francisco Bay Area designers and architects — across the city, Marin, the Peninsula, and Napa & Sonoma. We meet by appointment in San Francisco; shades are made in our New York and Van Nuys workrooms and installed across the Bay Area, by a studio serving the design community since 1985.

Shades made to the window
We fabricate Roman shades and specialty treatments in your specified fabric — flat, relaxed, and structured styles, lined and detailed for the way each window should operate and read.
Shades are fabricated in our workrooms; measuring and installation are coordinated throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area, and can be paired with matching drapery from the same studio.

How a San Francisco shade project runs with us
Shades are built to your trade specification. We meet by appointment in San Francisco, field-measure each window across the city, Marin, the Peninsula, and Napa & Sonoma, and confirm yardage from the C.O.M. (customer’s own material) you ship to the fabricating workroom.
Valley Studio has no San Francisco workroom: Roman and specialty shades are fabricated by hand in our New York and Van Nuys workrooms, lined and detailed to spec, then returned for local installation across the Bay Area.
Frequently asked questions
- Where are shades for a San Francisco project fabricated?
In our New York and Van Nuys workrooms — not in San Francisco. We measure and install locally across the city, Marin, the Peninsula, and Napa & Sonoma, with the hand fabrication done at our established workrooms.
- What shade styles do you make for Bay Area designers?
Flat, relaxed, and structured Roman shades plus specialty treatments, lined and detailed for how each window should operate — well suited to the strong Bay Area light and the larger openings common in Marin and Napa houses.
- Can shades be coordinated with drapery on the same San Francisco project?
Yes. Because shades and drapery for a Bay Area project are made in the same workrooms, a San Francisco designer can match fabric, lining, and finishing across both so a Peninsula or Marin room reads as one scheme.
- How does C.O.M. work for a Bay Area shade order?
You specify and ship the fabric to the fabricating workroom against the order. We confirm yardage from the shade measurements before cutting, so a San Francisco designer knows the goods are reserved before a Napa or city treatment is begun.
